Chinese Characters Recognition and Strokes Writing
As an enrichment class, our centre’s curriculum not only covers the Ministry of Education’s Chinese syllabus, but also encompasses broader, deeper, and farther-reaching content. We use carefully selected children’s picture books to teach children how to recognise characters, phrases, and expressions, and to understand their stories’ moral lessons. In addition, we also teach children the correct posture for writing, pen-holding techniques, and other penmanship skills.
Idiom Stories
By watching interesting idiom stories, children can remember and understand the origins of idioms and Chinese history, enriching their knowledge and improving cultural literacy. Children also learn to use idioms appropriately and accurately in sentences, compositions, and everyday conversations.
Reading/ Comprehension
Children need to acquire basic character recognition skills before they can effectively learn to read systematically. This class will enhance children’s reading abilities, helping them master skills such as rapid reading, in-depth reading, continuous reading, organizing information structures, understanding phrases, sentences, and paragraphs in texts, understanding the role of punctuation in sentences, and answering reading comprehension questions effectively.
Oratory Skills Training
Through lively performances, fun nursery rhymes, tongue twisters, and experiential participation, we cultivate children’s language expression abilities and standard Chinese pronunciation. Children also gain joyful emotional experiences from activities, boosting their confidence in using Chinese.
Picture Composition/ Primary School Composition
Children from Primary one to three will undergo picture composition training. In this class, children learn how to write sentences using appropriate phrases and punctuation marks in the correct format (with two spaces at the beginning). Additionally, guided by teachers (who, where, what?), children can write down the key points of the pictures in the correct order.
On the other hand, children from Primary four to six will undergo Chinese composition training. Children learn to differentiate the varieties of compositional topics, use rhetoric, outline the skeletal structure of a composition, and discuss structural techniques to advance their compositional writing skills.

Chinese Enrichment Classes for Preschoolers aged 4 to 6
Pinyin Learning Class
Chinese Pinyin is a string of dull characters. To make students want to learn and enjoy learning, we need to turn dullness into fun. At Little Gifts & Miracles, we fully utilize textbooks, connect with real-life situations, create language environments, and repeatedly expose students to HanYu PinYin in language environments, enabling students to proficiently grasp, consolidate, and apply the skills of Chinese Pinyin, maximizing the multifunctional role of Chinese Pinyin. We use vivid images, lively stories, and interesting games to teach, allowing children to experience the joy and ease of learning Pinyin, stimulating students’ interest in learning Pinyin, and laying a solid foundation for future Chinese character learning.
Strokes Writing/ Chinese Penmanship Class
Chinese educator, calligrapher, and poet Guo Mo Ruo pointed out as early as 1962: “To cultivate students to write well, not everyone needs to become a calligrapher, but the writing must be in accordance with specifications, relatively upright, clean, and easily recognizable. This cultivation of habits is beneficial; it can make people careful, concentrate well, and be good at caring for others. Rushing through things, being careless and irresponsible, and being arbitrary and self-willed can lead one into troubles easily.” Also, the great calligrapher Shen Yin Mo said: “Practicing calligraphy is not only good for the body but can cultivate a keen and calm mind that is good at observing, considering, and handling affairs as well.”
Even in this era of widespread computer usage, the fountain pen remains an irreplaceable primary writing tool. “Writing is a person’s face,” so we firmly believe that children will benefit for a lifetime from formal stroke writing and penmanship training starting from an early age.
